This assignment took me a while & I think it was a perfect assignment to write about on my digital portfolio. It contains 5 short HAIKU poems, which is a type of poem. This type of poem is what we were learning in english at the time & it has to contain 3 lines with only 5 syllables in the first & last line & 8 syllables in the middle line. After writing these poems we had to find pictures to go along with it, which as you can see by reading the poems, they demonstrate the text well. In the center of the project you can see that I wrote a short summary paragraph of the novel. I made this project using google drawing which I have used before in my old school & I created arrows to demonstrate the circular plot structure.

In language arts we are now reading Shabanu, Daughter Of The Wind. It is a very good book, about a young Muslim girl and her family, and how she lives. Students are also writing these short little essays about each chapter in this book, or sometimes two chapters combined or a certain question that has to do with the chapter. I have done a few already and we are still reading and uploading more responses.
These are personal responses, not summaries about the chapter, instead we write about how we can connect to Shabanu, and how we feel about the chapter.

This book and assignment reminds of when I had to thesame thing in third grade with Charlotte's Web.
I think these Shabanu responses help us with our language and summarizing skills. The reason we are reading this book is because it goes along with our history lesson about Muslim and Islam culture, and when we reflect on the book it really helps us to fully understand it.
